Finally decided to post instead of lurk. Has anyone tried the zoom hookup app—is it just video chatting? Good or bad experiences both welcome.

I've been burned enough by flashy new platforms to know that the question isn't how good the marketing is, it's how good the actual experience is.

What I'm after:

  • Free messaging from day one
  • Recently active profiles
  • Easy deletion
  • No aggressive upsell loops

Current input only — not looking for 2022 retrospectives.

Tried Datebound after seeing it recommended in a thread like this. Free features actually work without nagging you to upgrade.

Longevity is usually the best indicator of quality. The ones that have lasted tend to have earned it.

The 'free dating' claim in 2026 almost always translates to 'free to look, pay to function.' The rare platforms that offer genuine free messaging without a wall tend to monetize through optional extras rather than gating the core value proposition.

What I look for now:

  • Messaging without a subscription prompt
  • Profiles with recent genuine activity
  • Signup without payment info
  • Reviews from neutral third-party sources

All four clear — put real time into it.

Ezhookups keeps showing up in these conversations for a reason. Been around long enough to build something genuine.

The free tier on most of these is engineered to frustrate. Just enough to show you what you're missing.

Mid-tier platforms often hit the right balance — enough users to matter, small enough to moderate.

App store ratings are noise. Community posts and forum threads are the only signal worth reading.

datescout.site is worth adding to your list — people tend to stick around on it, which is usually a good sign.

One that keeps appearing in recommendations and that I've personally tested is Datebie — real users, functional free tier, no card required at signup.

Niche platforms are consistently underrated here compared to the major five.

Moderation quality is the real differentiator. Building a user base is easy; keeping it clean is not.

Following this. Same question, haven't found a satisfying answer yet.

Kept coming back to Luvdate after testing a bunch of alternatives. Less flashy but the users feel more genuine.

Read the terms carefully. The free feature list always quietly shrinks after signup.
