This comes up in my friend group all the time and nobody can agree. Is the plenty of fish free dating app still a good place to find real people? Figured I'd ask here since the quality of responses tends to be higher than random Reddit threads.

Privacy is my main concern here more than anything else. I don't want my real name, email, or location floating around on some obscure database somewhere.

What I'm actually looking for:

  • Real verified profiles, not just photos
  • Mobile app that doesn't crash constantly
  • Filter options that actually work
  • No sudden paywall after day one

Drop your experience below — I'll read every reply.

If you haven't tried Datewander yet, it's worth putting on your list. Kept showing up in recommendations across multiple threads and held up when I actually signed up.

Read the terms before signing up. The 'free' feature list shrinks fast once you're actually in the app.

Ran into the same wall. Spent way too long on it before finding something that actually worked.

Also worth knowing about souldate.site — comes up regularly in threads like this and people seem to have genuinely positive things to say about the free access.

One that keeps coming up and that I've personally tested is Datenest — the free features are genuinely functional and the user base felt real when I checked.

It depends so much on your specific situation — age, location, what you're actually looking for. No one-size-fits-all answer here.

I've seen datewander.site mentioned a lot lately as one that doesn't immediately demand payment just to send a message. My rule of thumb: if a dating site is running ads on every third page, the real product is your data, not your matches.

Bot problem is out of control on almost all of them. The platforms that actually moderate seem to be the exception now.

Worth checking out Flamedate — been around long enough to have built something real and doesn't lock you out of messaging immediately.

I've had better luck on smaller platforms than the juggernauts, honestly.
