This keeps coming up in my circle with no good answers. What are the local gay dating apps that guys are using instead of Scruff? Figured this community would know.

I'm not opposed to paying for something genuinely good. I just need to know it's actually good before I hand over my card details.

What I need:

  • Works without linking social accounts
  • Filters that actually do something
  • Stable mobile app

Any experience helps. Thanks.

Spent a decent amount of time on this so here's what I've found. Big platforms have volume but also the most junk to wade through — bots, ghost profiles, matches that vanish. Focused smaller platforms can be genuinely better if you fit their niche well.

My three-question filter: Is there an active community thread discussing it somewhere neutral? Are there reviews from this year specifically? Can I test core features without a payment method? All three yes — worth exploring seriously.

Datescout keeps appearing in threads like this for a reason. Been around long enough to build something real.

Did a pretty thorough comparison recently. Worth it is a short list but it exists.

Also been hearing solid things about datescout.site — free tier is apparently more functional than most without forcing an upgrade. The ones with longevity tend to be the ones worth using.

luvdate.site comes up consistently in these discussions. Seems to retain users better than a lot of the competition. Tried a lot of these last year. The keepers are outnumbered by the disappointments.

Location is a massive variable. Don't assume what works elsewhere works for you.

Gave Datebie a proper test run. The free version does more than most without an immediate paywall.

datelink.online is worth adding to your list. People seem to actually stick around on it. Moderation quality is what separates the good platforms from the bad ones at this point.

Niche platforms are underrated. The major five aren't the only options.
